Intentional Communities: What is a regenerative educational community?

Updated: Apr 4, 2023

What is an intentional community?

In recent years, more and more people are choosing to move into intentional communities. These communities are characterized by individuals who share a common vision and goal of living together in harmony, with a focus on sustainability, and deepening connections with each other, and the land we caretake.

Why are people moving into communities?

One of the primary reasons why people are moving into intentional communities is the desire to live simpler more ethical lifestyle.

Many people feel a sense of disconnection from the natural world in modern society and crave a lifestyle that allows them to live in harmony with nature.

Intentional communities offer a unique opportunity to participate in sustainable practices, such as permaculture, organic farming, and renewable energy.

People are isolated and disconnected in modern society, and intentional communities provide a supportive environment where individuals can build meaningful relationships based on shared values and goals. Living in community allows individuals to share responsibilities, resources, and experiences, creating a sense of belonging and connection that is often lacking in modern society.

There are many benefits to living in intentional communities, including increased social support, reduced stress, and a greater sense of purpose and meaning in life. Studies have shown that people who live in intentional communities report higher levels of life satisfaction and happiness than those who live alone or in traditional nuclear families. Living in community also promotes a more minimalist lifestyle, which can contribute to greater happiness and well-being. By sharing resources and living sustainably, individuals can reduce their ecological footprint and focus on what truly matters in life, such as relationships, personal growth, and meaningful experiences.

What Is An Educational Community?

An educational focused regenerative community is a community that prioritizes sustainable living and focuses on teaching and learning practices that support environmental regeneration, social justice, and community well-being.

Such a community seeks to create a culture of education that is grounded in ecological principles and is centered around the regeneration of natural systems.

In a regenerative community, people come together to learn and apply regenerative practices in areas such as food systems, energy production, waste management, and building design. These practices are designed to support the health and vitality of the community and its surrounding environment.

Education in our regenerative community is collaborative, experiential, and focused on practical skills. People of all ages and backgrounds can participate in learning and teaching activities, creating a dynamic and diverse educational environment.

This type of education helps build community resilience and prepares individuals for a sustainable future.

Overall, an educational regenerative community is a place where people can come together to learn and practice regenerative principles, creating a culture of sustainability and resilience that supports both people and planet.
